From October 29 to November 18, volunteers in the United States have distributed debit cards to over 10,000 families, provided over 8,000 servings of food and provided concern to more than 15 areas affected by Hurricane Sandy.

On November 15, 2012, Tzu Chi Kuala Lumpur & Selangor launched a 10-day fundraising campaign to "Give a helping hand to US hurricane victims". Tzu Chi volunteers sincerely prayed for the victims and hoped to touch the hearts of the public while soliciting loving-kindness from them through this campaign. Nature is unpredictable and fragile. Hurricane Sandy lashed through the islands of Caribbean and blanketed the entire U.S. East Coast with torrential rain and devastating wind at the end of October. Many families are still reeling from Hurricane Sandy's aftermath and dealing with collapsed buildings, flood damages, loss of love ones, and battered public infrastructures.

On November 11, 400 Tzu Chi volunteers distributed cash cards, blankets and daily necessities to nearly 2,000 families in six districts in the greater New York area. The families are suffering from a shortage of power and water and freezing temperatures almost two weeks after the passage of Hurricane Sandy. The recipients were extremely moved by this generosity.
