On March 11, 2013, 26 children from Kuala Lumpur Da Ai Educare Centre were brought by their teachers and volunteers to a nearby commercial area to learn how to interact with people through the promotion of "Jing-Si aphorisms".

Activity Coordinator, Teacher Cheok Hui Lee hoped to build up the children's self-confidence through introducing Jing-Si aphorisms to strangers. At the same time, the children could also learn to apply the Jing-Si aphorisms they learnt in school.

The outdoor lesson was held on March 11, 2013. Accompanied by their teachers and volunteers, the 26 children of Kuala Lumpur Da Ai Educare Centre went to a nearby commercial area, armed with posters with Jing-Si aphorisms.

The children were divided into 6 groups; and each group was led by a teacher and a volunteer to cover 4 to 5 shops. A total of 27 shops supported the activity.

Overcome nervousness to make the first move

Upon entering the first shop, the children plucked up courage and asked nervously, "Uncle, Good Morning. We come from Tzu Chi's kindergarten. Can we put up a "Jing-Si aphorism" poster in your shop?"

The friendly shop assistant nodded his head in approval. Encouraged by the positive response, the children happily put up a poster on the wall.

At a laundry shop, the children were advised by the lady boss to affix the poster on the righthand side of the service counter instead of the centre. This was to ensure that the poster would not be shielded by the customers' clothing. The children were relieved after hearing the explanation and did as advised.

Madam Jiang said, "Da Ai Kindergarten's children are so polite!" She gave every child a big hug to express her gratitude.

Which one is the best?

Coco Wong, Supervisor of Max Zone Hair & Beauty Studio, greeted the children warmly. When she requested the children to recommend the poster with the best Jing-Si aphorism, they answered in unison, "All are good." The witty answer drew laughter from everyone.

After the activity, the children returned to their classroom where they had a sharing session.

One child said, "The third shop asked for 3 posters. I also explained the meanings of the Jing-Si Aphorisms to the auntie." Another chipped in to say, "I am so happy because I get to give out the Jing-Si aphorism posters; the auntie was very happy too."

The one-hour activity was a great success as the children had learnt to interact and promote Jing-Si aphorisms to many people.
